For $494 at the Good Guys the 14in ASUS X44H-VX026V is a good-value basic notebook that has slightly enhanced portability over its more expensive brethren. A 2nd Gen Intel Core i3 and 4GB of RAM provide enough computing power to multi-task fluidly, so despite the low price it’s powerful enough to stay useful for a while.
Processor
The X44H features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz), a fast low-end processor which can smoothly run productivity applications and some intensive software.
Graphics
The X44H includes an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.
RAM
The X44H comes with 4GB of RAM, which is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. This will be sufficient for moderately intensive image and video editing tasks as well.
Storage
The X44H has a 500GB hard disk drive, which is large enough to store important files along with a core collection of media content.
Screen
The X44H sports a 14in (1,366 x 768 resolution) glossy screen. The gloss screen does make outdoor usage a bit of a struggle, but stay out of direct sunlight and it’s still fine.
